Emergency Power Generator Manufacturing
Bespoke diesel generator systems for maximum supply reliability
Consultancy, development and manufacturing from a single source
At AKO, manufacturing does not begin on the shop floor, but at the consultancy stage. It is the customer’s requirements that determine how the generator system is designed – not the other way round. Our experienced developers and design engineers create emergency generators that fulfil precisely the tasks for which they are intended: from protecting sensitive production processes to ensuring cold chains, infrastructure, or the saving of human lives.
AKO remains a reliable technical partner for operators long after in-house manufacturing has been completed. With its comprehensive generator service – including maintenance, repairs, test runs and modernisation – the long-term availability of the system is ensured. This means customers receive not only a bespoke emergency generator, but also a service approach that covers the entire lifecycle of the standby power system.
Who needs emergency generator manufacturing?
Planning consultants, architects, technical managers, electrical contractors and procurement teams turn to AKO whenever a custom-designed and reliably executed standby power system is required. For many companies and applications, an emergency power supply is essential to ensure continuity of operations. These systems are used wherever even brief mains power interruptions could cause significant damage:
- Industry and manufacturing
- Chemical companies
- Agricultural businesses
- Data centres
- Hospitals and critical infrastructure
- Supermarkets

Manufacturing at AKO – Planning, Engineering and Service
Before a generator is designed, AKO analyses the required power capacity, operating scenario and potential risks together with the client:
- Which consumers and loads must be supplied in the event of an emergency?
- Which restart times are critical?
- Which legal or regulatory requirements apply at the site?
This precise preparatory work results in diesel emergency generators that operate reliably when needed – without over- or undersizing.
The design is carried out using CAD and takes into account all technical, structural and operational requirements. This planning phase is central to the subsequent construction of the generator system: exhaust air ducts, tank capacities, sound attenuation, foundation loads and integration into existing plant environments are all designed with precision.
At our production facility in Gernsheim, Hesse, the planning phase is turned into a fully operational, reliable complete system. From materials and dimensions through to ancillary components, we offer customer-specific configurations.
Containerised generator systems
The most common design, ideal for outdoor installation and flexible in terms of dimensions, sound insulation and tank capacity.
Advantages of containerised construction:
- Easy relocation to new sites, including decentralised locations, without extensive structural work
- Efficient logistics thanks to a transport-optimised design
- Reduced planning effort for applications with standardised power and equipment requirements
- Compact design possible
- Compliance with operator obligations for water protection (AwSV and WHG)
Stationary building installations / open generator sets
Stationary systems for permanent installation within a building. Individually integrated into plant rooms or building infrastructure – including air routing, acoustic lining and vibration isolation.
Advantages of the open design:
- Designed for continuous stationary operation
- Suitable for installation indoors
- Executed precisely in line with project-specific requirements and spatial conditions
- A reliable basis for stable and trouble-free operation
Mobile power generators
For businesses, local authorities or agricultural operations that require mobile and flexible backup power protection. Mobile emergency generators offer a high degree of flexibility, as they can be deployed quickly to changing locations and do not require complex structural preparations. They are particularly suitable for temporary applications, such as construction sites, events or short-term power shortages. Thanks to their trailer-mounted design, operators remain independent of fixed installations and can provide power exactly where it is needed. We are also happy to assist you with mobile power generators.
Accessories and ancillary components
Depending on the project, additional assemblies may also be produced. Manufacturing our own accessories allows flexible design options and the greatest possible planning freedom for the customer.
- Silencers (exhaust silencers, splitter silencers)
- Air ducts
- Acoustic lining
- Auxiliary drives (pre-heaters, pump combinations)
- Fuel polishing systems
Engines, alternators, diesel tanks in bespoke sizes and configurations (on-site welded basement tanks, underground tanks or outdoor above-ground tanks) and control panels are sourced to project-specific requirements and to a high quality standard, then fully integrated into the overall system. This enables AKO to remain flexible in its technical design – a clear advantage where specific engine families, standards or structural conditions need to be taken into account.
Before a standby power system leaves the factory, it undergoes comprehensive testing:
- Functional testing of all components
- In-house test runs
- Verification of the control logic
- Inspection of interfaces for later building integration
This quality assurance ensures that installation and commissioning at the customer’s site proceed quickly and without unexpected issues.
AKO takes care of the complete installation, the electrical and mechanical connection work, and commissioning. The system is tested and documented under realistic conditions – a significant advantage for operators, auditors and planners.
What sets AKO apart from conventional generator manufacturers
-
High level of in-house manufacturing – genuine value creation under one roof
From sheet metal fabrication and the production of auxiliary units and accessory components to complete container solutions, large parts of the system are manufactured in-house.
-
A single point of contact throughout the entire lifecycle
Planning, manufacturing, installation and service – all from a single source. No interface losses and clear responsibilities. -
Bespoke generator construction instead of catalogue products
AKO manufactures exclusively individual systems – each with its own concept. -
Integration of proprietary fuel polishing systems
A key factor for operational reliability, particularly in installations with large tank volumes or long standby periods.
